Essex/Suffolk TT Association

The Essex and Suffolk Town Twinning Association exists to promote town twinning in the two counties. An AGM is held every year, with the exception of the Covid years.

Hosted again by Lowestoft in 2021, although by Zoom, they discussed ways in which Twinning Associations can actively participate in sustainability and climate change activities.

This year, a guest speaker, a German lady who was born and brought up in Trier, Germany, in 1939. She married a Frenchman and moved to Plaisir just outside Paris, opened the meeting . She also has relatives in Ireland.

She came up with the idea of Town Twinning 45 years ago because she didn’t want to lose contact with her family and wanted everyone to be friends and stop fighting each other; so Town Twinning was born.

After leaving our meeting, the mayor of Plaisir put on a celebratory event to mark the 45th anniversary in her town hall of Plaisir for her and for all members of Town Twinning who could attend. She spoke very good English and it was a pleasure to hear her lovely story.

The following towns attended:
